Running wild with Forest Schools Skills at Underbank Primary

Primary 2/3 pupils from Underbank Primary School recently held a showcase of their learning to demonstrate their new Forest School skills.

The P 2/3 pupils invited parents, relatives and members of the community along to their local woodland to share in their learning. The pupils were provided with opportunities to explore nature and the outdoors in a safe, nurturing environment with Forest School Leader, Miss Elkin, and their class teacher Miss McInally. 

Through Forest School sessions at Underbank, staff aim to develop a life-long love and understanding of the natural world, whilst encouraging and inspiring their pupils to develop their personal, social and emotional skills through participation in tasks and activities which are motivating and achievable. 

During weekly sessions, prior to the showcase, the pupils were also accompanied by two parents, Mrs Lynn Todd and Mr Andrew Downie, who very kindly give their time to support Miss Elkin in delivering Forest School sessions. 

The school is very fortunate to have received funding from Heritage Lottery Fund Scotland supported Clyde and Avon Valley Landscape Partnership to have these two parents trained as Forest School assistants, which allows them to practice their skills. 

The children loved the opportunity to share their learning with their visitors and a fantastic time was had by all!
