Event's Address:

Smithycroft, West carpark, next to River Avon ML3 7UL

Join the Clyde River Foundation as they survey the aquatic wildlife of the River Avon – drop by to meet the inhabitants of your local stretch and find out what lives there. 21 local primary schools have participated in ‘Salmon Homecoming’ this year, an education project celebrating the improved access for migratory fish at two weirs on the river. There will be a live demonstration of electrofishing, fish, aquatic invertebrates and plenty of craft to keep young ones occupied. Wrap up well - wellington boots with good grip would be ideal. Very well behaved dogs might be okay however we don’t want to scare off the wildlife…particularly the fish!

Weirs on the Avon Water have been a barrier to spawning grounds for Atlantic salmon for over a century. This summer, a flagship partnership project funded by Scottish Environment Protection Agency’s (SEPA’s) Water Environment Fund and the Clyde and Avon Valley Landscape Partnership (CAVLP), will open up 200km of river in the Avon Water that will see majestic Atlantic salmon leaping the Avon Water once again.
